The Chixoy Dam Takeover was organized by communities that had been violently displaced due to original dam construction in 1976. They seized the dam and provided a list of demands to the Guatemalan Government. Several of the organizers faced long court battles, but the 2004 takeover sparked negotiations resulting in reparations paid to victims.
